Osborne Samuel’s installation at Masterpiece, June 2010 |
| Osborne Samuel is very pleased to participate in the inaugural year of the prestigious Masterpiece Art Fair. We will lead our
exhibition with important sculptures, notably a seminal early work by Lynn Chadwick entitled Teddy Boy and Girl, a cast of
which was exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 1956, the year that Chadwick beat Giacometti into second place to win the
acclaimed International Prize for Sculpture. Also by Chadwick we will be showing an exceptionally rare iron sculpture from 1953
that was actually shown in Venice in 1956. We have one of the famous Elisabeth Frink Goggle Heads and an iconic Horse and
Rider. We are known for our Henry Moore collection and this year is no exception, we will show the 1954 Maquette for Seated
Torso alongside a recently discovered, exquisite Family Group drawing from 1944. Contemporary sculptors also feature with new
bronzes by Sean Henry. |

Paintings will also be well represented, an early Ivon Hitchens will hang alongside an extremely important Keith Vaughan of
1951, Neapolitan Bathers and a large 1958 oil by Peter Kinley, extracted from our exhibition in the gallery, where we launched
the recent publication on Kinley by Catherine Kinley and Marco Livingstone. Later Modern artists are also represented including
a very rich Sam Francis acrylic.
We also specialise in important prints, the linocuts of the Grosvenor School being a particular strength, artists such as Sybil
Andrews and Cyril Power. We will also exhibit a very fine 1920 drypoint by Christopher Nevinson, Looking Through Brooklyn
Bridge. |

It is a two-way relationship between people and place, essentially a form of human ecology, which starts to unearth what is
original and different about Jackson’s approach to landscape art. He is a lifelong naturalist and studied zoology at Oxford
university. One of the signature qualities in a Jackson painting is a deep knowledge not merely of how the various parts of an
environment are constructed - the shapes of leaves, trees, rocks, birds, flowers etc, he also understands the processes of
interaction and change to which all natural environments are subject.
